Our insider guide to the local area

Nestled in the pretty village of Kington Langley in north Wiltshire, Kin House sits on the edge of the Cotswolds, not far from the Georgian splendour of Bath. Here, we share our favourite spots and things to do in the surrounding area — all within an hour’s drive of the house.

Gardens & Walks

Kin House is surrounded by acres of pretty woodland, but if you fancy stretching your legs a little further, these are just a few of the loveliest walks in the area: Highgrove (25 minutes), the private residence of King Charles, is not far away and his majesty’s much loved gardens — especially the Wildflower Meadow — are a wonder to behold; nearby is the Westonbirt Arboretum, with its 2500 species of trees from all corners of the globe; and further afield is the stunning Stourhead (1 hour), with its 18th century landscaped gardens and the King Alfred’s Tower walk.

Pretty Villages, Towns & Cities

Castle Combe (15 minutes) is a postcard-perfect village to the west of the House, tucked just inside the idyllic Cotswolds. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it has a 13th century church, honey-stone houses and a pretty river to stroll along. If you love hunting down antiques and vintage finds, drive to Tetbury (25 minutes) and spend hours sifting for treasures at Brownrigg and Lorfords. It’s also home to Artique, an Aladdin’s Cave for rugs and Moroccan furniture, as well as the much-loved Yellow Lighted Bookshop.

Then, of course, there is Bath (40 minutes) with its elegant, Regency curves and Georgian architecture. Stop in for pastries at our supplier Landrace Bakery, mooch around Nam Store and Found for cool pieces, bathe in thermal waters and wander around slick contemporary art spots, 8 Holland Street and the Francis Gallery.

Cafes, Pubs & Restaurants

In the nearby market town of Corsham, Mother & Wild (15 minutes) serves up fantastic sourdough pizzas loaded with local ricottas, as well as sharing ciders. The Lacock Bakery (15 minutes) has freshly baked artisan breads, cakes and pastries and a sweet garden to sit in. Towards Malmesbury, The Potting Shed (20 minutes) is a delightful, cosy pub for a Sunday roast or a midweek dinner. South in the direction of Bath, Hartley Farm Shop & Kitchen (30 minutes) has a slick restaurant in a barn, supplied by the family farm, as well as a cabin for take-away coffees and gelato.

B&Bs & Hotels

Next to The Potting Shed, you’ll find The Rectory (20 minutes), a prettily-proportioned country house hotel with comfy beds, roll-top baths and a fantastic glasshouse restaurant. Beyond Bath, is the original countryside outpost of Soho House, the elegant Babington House (50 minutes), with its spa, outdoor heated pool and tennis court. In the south of Wiltshire, you’ll find The Bradley Hare (50 minutes), a stylish pub with rooms with beautiful interiors by James Waterworth.
