The most spectacular destinations for a hot honeymoon

Planning an autumn or winter wedding? Once you have waved goodbye to your nearest and dearest at Kin House, you will likely be in want of a hot honeymoon. So, we’ve scoured the globe in search of the most spectacular destinations — and hotels — to help you toast your newlywed status. From Grand Cayman in the Caribbean to Sri Lanka via Indonesia’s Sumba, read on for rest, recuperation and good vibes only…

Grand Cayman

There is nothing like doing sweet nothing on your honeymoon, and the Caribbean is just the place to do it. The new spot on our radar? It has to be Palm Heights, Grand Cayman’s first boutique hotel which has brought a chic new style of traveller to the island. Designed in a slick 70s mansion style and with a serious dose of old Caribbean glamour, each of the rooms is more like an apartment — our favourites have big sun terraces overlooking the sea and cavernous outdoor baths. This is a place to really settle into, moving from breakfast at Tilly’s with your toes in the sand, to a sun-drenched striped lounger on the beach, before sitting at the pool’s swim-up bar with a spicy margarita — it is all very Slim Aarons. Palm Heights has also recently opened its new outdoor Wellbeing Club, which you will want to make very good use of, too.

Sri Lanka

After a tricky few years, Sri Lanka is waiting with open arms to receive visitors once again and its pure shores are just the place for a peaceful honeymoon in the sun. To add to the excitement, the Teardrop of the Indian Ocean has a slew of new hotel openings for the new season. The one we are most enamoured with is Kurulu Bay, immersed in tranquility near Lake Koggala on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Surrounded by lush gardens and a private tropical jungle, it has a clutch of treehouses and cottages decorated in luxurious simplicity. In short, it is the ultimate retreat and spot to unwind — not least because of its beautiful pool and daily yoga rituals.

Costa Rica

As a pioneer of sustainable tourism and champion of the pura vida lifestyle, Costa Rica is a brilliant choice for laid-back, eco-conscious honeymooners. The proud home of incredible biodiversity, this destination also has a clutch of beautiful eco-hotel, including the adults-only Nayara Springs. Lying at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, surrounded by nature at her finest, guests sleep in idyllic villas with private hot spring pools and the rainforest for company.  Spend your days hiking in the jungle, or merely soaking it all in from your spectacular terrace, martini in hand.

Franschhoek Mountains, South Africa

With its intense focus on rest and recuperation, the newly minted Sterrekopje Farm is just the sanctuary newlyweds need. Set on 50 hectares of South African farmland just outside Franschhoek, this is a holistic stay designed to regeneration earth, body and soul. There are 11 hideaways to choose from, peppered across its lush land and myriad spaces and spots to come together if you so desire — whether that is to practise yoga, bake bread, try your hand at pottery or become a forager. Take a wild swim or two in the farm’s natural lake and make time for the Bath House, where everything from aromatherapies, to reflexology and massage awaits.

Sumba, Indonesia

The unspoilt alternative to Bali, the Indonesian island of Sumba is our under-the-radar pick for a winter sun honeymoon. With a spectacular and remote coastline and unique Marapu culture, it is easy to see why Fabrice and Evguenia Ivara felt inspired to settle on Sumba to open the new, sustainably-minded Cap Karoso. A beachside retreat within an organic farm, you can while away your days at the Explorer’s Beach Club and your evenings at the open-air cinema. Your wellbeing is well catered to as well; finesse your tree poses on the yoga deck and pay several visits to the shaman-blessed spa, which is inspired by ingredients native to Sumba. This is far-flung at its best.
